Welcome

Welcome to Green County, Kentucky!

Green County is a rural community located in South Central Kentucky. We are twenty miles north of Lindsey Wilson College in neighboring Adair County and twelve miles west of Campbellsville University in adjoining Taylor County. We have a rich heritage that anyone would easily appreciate. Our land varies from flat and gently rolling, to a steep and rocky terrain. Green River runs directly through our county, providing an ideal source for fishing and canoe rides. Green County is just minutes from Green River Lake, which allows easy access to great fishing, camping, and boating.

Green County's American Legion Park is another valuable asset to our community. American Legion Park is approximately 30 acres and is located on Green River. The park has a pavilion that provides the perfect site for family gatherings. A walking track circles the park, encompassing six ball diamonds, two playgrounds, a basketball court, and a modern concession stand with restrooms. By the end of 2007, a renovation of Memorial Hall will be completed. This will be an indoor multi-purpose facility that will include a full length basketball court, kitchen, meeting rooms, and restrooms.

The Oldest Courthouse west of the Allegheny Mountains resides in Green County, providing a focal point for many visitors and history buffs alike.

Green County's largest remaining stand of mature forest, Wyatt Jeffries Woods, includes fifty-eight acres of virgin timber. When camping overnight at Wyatt Jeffries Woods, located at 6079 Edmonton Road, one can access the 1.3 miles of walking trails, a bridge built by local boy scouts spanning ninety-eight feet, and a pavilion with restrooms. Here, several areas of amphibian habitat can be found, as well as a variety of trees labeled for easy identification. Green County's Wyatt Jeffries Woods provides an excellent source of environmental and outdoor recreation.

See the county come to life with its many annual celebrations, including Glover's Station Rendezvous, Art in the Alley, Easter and Christmas parades, the Green County Fair, and always a local favorite, Cow Days.
